Thursday 16th September 7.30pm
Radical Walthamstow
Well known as the home of pioneering Socialist thinker William Morris, Walthamstow has a long tradition of political radicalism stretching back to the 17th century. Well-known local poet, writer and musician Roger Huddle will speak on this almost unknown aspect of the community.

From Battleships to the Olympics
Peter Lawrence, Chairman of Woodford Historical Society, will explain something of the complex and significant role played by development in the Lea Valley towards the making of modern London

Thursday 11th November 2.30pm
London and the Great War
David Evans returns with a talk particularly appropriate for today’s date, and which will touch on both the local and wider London aspects of life in London during the 1914 – 1918 war.

Magic Lantern Show
Gary Heales from Vestry House will show us a selection of slides from the museum’s extensive collection with the aid of a genuine vintage magic lantern.

Short Talks and Films
Society members will share the fruits of their own researches with fellow members in a relaxed, informal meeting during which morning coffee will be served.

Thursday 17th February 7.30pm
The Sleeping Giant
Ken Brereton a Trustee of the Markfield Beam Engine and Museum in Tottenham will tell us the story of the background and return to steam of the magnificent 1888 beam engine situated in Markfield Park, Tottenham.

Thursday 17th March 7.30pm
Flat-Packed Churches
Presented by Neil Houghton. How By the mid 19th century there was huge demand for new churches. Funding was not available to satisfy demand so cheap short term solutions were needed. One solution using cutting-edge technology was churches of corrugated iron which were bought as flat-packed kits. Marianne Zierau will tell us about the history of these buildings illustrating her talk with examples from Walthamstow and from further afield.

Annual General Meeting
Following the business meeting, local historian Katy Andrews will speak on ‘Walthamstow Marshes’ sharing some of her unparalleled knowledge of this precious survivor of the prehistoric past and its later history
